Bali, Indonesia. Part 2 ; A visit to the island of paradise & Gods
26.01.23-30.01.23
This marks the continuation from part 1, but with a twist. I will delve into the events that happened for the next few days.
On day 3, we booked a Ubud day trip through Booking.com, with a reasonable price of 56 USD for two adults. The day began with unfavorable weather and flooding in Seminyak. However, as we ventured out of Seminyak, the weather seemed to be more promising.
Our first stop was a visit to what Ubud is famous for – their coffee and tea shops! We were introduced to various plants before delving into the coffee processing process. We even saw the Luwak, a type of cat, where the cherries undergo fermentation as they pass through a civet’s intestines. After being defecated, along with other fecal matter, they are collected. We were soon greeted by the rich aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans as a woman expertly roasted them. It was a fascinating experience to witness a glimpse of traditional coffee processing.
Following the informative session, we were treated to a complimentary sampling of a variety of tea and coffee. Since I’m not a coffee enthusiast, I focused on trying out some of the teas. After enjoying a leisurely time at the coffee area, we eagerly moved on to our next destination – the monkey forest!
The monkey forest proved to be a fascinating destination among the various stops of the day. The park is vast, with different groups of monkeys occupying various territories, making it an ideal place to spend an hour or two. Both Jane and I thoroughly enjoyed the overall atmosphere of the park, which had much to offer. Several temples, while not accessible to the public, displayed impressive exterior architecture for us to admire. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that if you pay Rp 50000 (USD 3.20), you can also get to enjoy some selfies with the monkeys.
In Bali, the rice terraces are an iconic and must-visit attraction, and it was no surprise that our guide for the day recommended a visit. While these places are popular tourist destinations, we had an absolute blast there. Engaging in various fun activities such as swings and sky biking, the swings, in particular, were intriguing, featuring several different swings for a unique experience. Despite my fear of heights, I definitely did not regret doing it with my best friend!
The final destination of our private tour led us to a Balinese Temple, also known as Pura. Most puras are situated on the island of Bali, where Hinduism is the predominant religion. It’s important to note that proper attire is expected when visiting these temples—covering both shoulders and legs. Typically, locals do this with a shawl and a sarong. Immersing myself in other cultures has always been fascinating, fostering a deeper appreciation for life’s little blessings.
After our temple visit, we began our journey back to the accommodation, and that’s when things took an unexpected turn. To this day, I am still unsure about the food that I ate which led to my food poisoning. Throughout the day, I wasn’t feeling well, but being stubborn, I didn’t let the discomfort spoilt our plans. However, on the way back to the resort, I started vomiting. Initially, I thought it was motion sickness, but my condition didn’t improve after resting. Instead, I felt bloated, nauseated, and developed a high fever.
After much persuasion from Jane, I finally agreed to see a doctor. We visited the famous Bali Belly clinic in Seminyak. As expected, I was diagnosed with food poisoning. Despite the discomfort, we found some humor in the clinic, thanks to the doctor’s amusing demeanor, which lightened the situation. I received IV drops and medications that night and the doctor advised against strenuous activities for the next couple of days. But guess what?…, I didn’t heed the advice and went ahead with our water activities the next day
On our final day in Bali, we filled it with an array of water activities, all conveniently booked through Klook. The package was a fantastic deal, inclusive of round-trip transfers. We engaged in parasailing, donut boating, jet skiing, and more. For those not constrained by budget, a whole day can easily be spent enjoying these activities. Keep in mind that the prices listed can be negotiated, so don’t hesitate to bargain and secure a better deal
This concludes my Bali blogging adventure. In summary, Bali is an excellent destination for a short vacation. I can’t emphasize enough the importance of double-checking prices and bargaining when possible. Also, ensure you have insurance coverage, just in case of unexpected incidents like food poisoning. Trust me, it’s far less damaging to your wallet than having to pay the full price. Once again, thank you for taking the time to read my blog!
